A Day In The Life of a Marketing Intern/Blogger!

Happy Wednesday CWH readers! I have wanted to do a day in my life post for so long and I finally got around to sitting down and figuring out what it is I do between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 9 pm, and I’m very excited to take you through a typical day here at my summer headquarters!

A day in the life of a social media intern and blogger

So this summer, I’ve been working as a Marketing intern for my dad’s company! It’s really great experience and you cannot beat the commute. (It’s about 36 steps from my bedroom to the garage that has been converted into a full functioning office!) I’ve also spend my time creating content for the blog and it’s really just been such a great summer of being totally in my element. I love spending time at home with my family while working at the same time!

6:15 Wakeup

My alarm goes off and I feel like an absolute sleepy monster, but then I remember that water and sunshine really wake me up, so I fill a big glass of water and drink that while I put on my running gear.

6:20 Pre-workout snack

I usually just grab a banana or occasionally I’ll do a small piece of toast with almond butter and honey.

10 new things to do this weekend

6:30-7:15 Go for a run and try not to die

After I snapchat vlogged (cristina.snaps) my whole day a couple weeks ago, I had a few comments on how much of an early riser I was and how the heck I was able to get so much done before 9! Haha 🙂 Well, I live in the most hot and humid place ever, so I have to be up and running (literally) before 7 or I get too overheated. I’ve been running every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and it really wakes me up.

7:15-7:30 Cool off and shower

To cool off, I’ll sometimes jump in the pool and sit for a few minutes while I drink some more water. I love this time of day because everything is so quiet in the neighborhood and I feel really good after my run. For my shower, I’ve been using my Hask Macadamia Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. (#notsponsored, but they did send me the bottles to do this post a little while back!) I also use their leave in conditioner spray and let my hair air dry with that in.

7:30-7:45 Breakfast

For those asking about the oatmeal recipe that I always take pictures of:

-1/2 cup quick oats

-1 sliced banana

-dash of brown sugar

-dash of cinnamon

-drizzle honey on top and eat!

7:45-8:00 Get dressed and do a quick face of makeup

I typically dress like it’s fall outside because my house is FREEZING! I love my adidas leggings that my mom got me for Christmas and a good long sleeve tee like this one from RiffRaff. I do this 5-minute makeup routine if I’m wearing makeup that day after I’ve cleansed and moisturized.

8:00-8:30ish Quiet time

Having some time with just me, my coffee, and Jesus really helps me to get my heart in the right place before fully diving into my day. I love listening to Hillsong on Spotify and reading through by bible and this devotional about gratitude!

8:30 ish Go into the office

I pretty much go into the office whenever my dad goes in there. I’m never really sure what needs doing for the company that day until we chat about it, so some days we’re in there pretty early or some days we both do a bit longer of a workout and don’t go in until 9 or 9:30.

9 am Chat with Dad about what needs doing

So, a lot of what I do for my internship is to make sure that the company is going to be searchable and accessable on both the web and social media. I’ve been writing a few blog posts for the website to boost our SEO rating and those have required time, effort, and research. I also email back and forth throughout the day with our program manager about anything that needs attention or fixing in terms of the app we are launching and our website. Recently, I’ve been playing around a lot on Photoshop with graphics for the site!

10:00-10:10 am Snack break

I’m always hungry at this time! I usually go for an apple with almond butter or some pita chips and hummus.

5 reasons to get on pinterest everyday, pinterest inspiration for health, style, and lifestyle

10:15 am – 12:30 pm Work, Work, Work, Work, Work, Work (Like the Rihanna song)

I tend to switch off tasks between stuff that needs to be done for work and for the blog. (Though I try to do a lot of blogging early in the morning and over the weekends, so most of it’s taken care of.) I typically start off the work day by sharing my blog post for that day on social media and commenting on some of my other favorite blogs. I love to use Stumbleupon, Facebook, and Pinterest to really boost my blog’s reach throughout the day.

For my internship, I spend time creating content, responding to emails, and just chatting with my dad about different things such as how to better our Facebook page and reach our target audience. It’s great to sit by each other to bounce ideas around, and I hope my future office has an open concept like our garage office does. Since we are developing an app, there’s a lot of testing involved, so we literally get to play on our phones as part of the job.

12:30-1:00 pm Lunch!

Anytime I’m eating, I’m happy. You can ask Cam! When my food is really good, I dance in my seat while eating. It’s kinda weird. Anyway, I usually make one of these recipes and watch some Youtube videos while I eat.

1:00-4:30 pm More Work, Work, Work, Work, Work, Work

Most days, I stay home for the second half of the day, but once a week or so I like to get out and go to a local coffee shop just for a change of pace and a cup of cold brew!

The second half of my day is slower and easier than the first half, because I tend to get a lot knocked out before lunch. By now, my blog post has been shared, I’ve commented on blogs in my various Facebook groups, and I’ve probably responded to a dozen emails or so for both jobs.

Content creating and scheduling: I’m typically a week ahead on blog posts, so this week I’m writing next week’s blog posts. (I talk about where I get my inspiration for content in this video of mine!) If I haven’t done so already at this point in the day, I’ll take a break from my internship work to get a couple drafted up or maybe add photos to a post that needs them.

Photography and Editing: If I have a brand collaboration that week, there’s a bit more work involved because I like to do thorough research, thorough editing of my post, and take some high-quality images on my Nikon D3200.

Social Media: I also try to spend 20 minutes on Pinterest looking for inspiration and pinning so that I really keep my Pinterest stats looking good!

Errands: Then there’s always random to-dos like do my laundry, pick up prescriptions, schedule appointments, and random other means of adulting.

5:00 pm – Drive to Cam’s!

I don’t do this every day, but if I don’t already have plans with my family or it’s not Bachelorette night at my mom’s, I’ll go to Cam’s to see him when he gets done with work. On the drive over (it’s about a 20 minute drive) I listen to #AdulthoodMadeEasy podcasts!

5:30 pm – 8:30 pm Hang out with Cam (Hi, Cam! I hope you’re having a good day at work!)

I pull up to Cam’s and he always makes his puppy Milo sit and wait patiently before running to greet me – he’s the cutest thing! We usually eat dinner with his family and then we watch a bit of HGTV while Cam does homework for his online class.

When he needs a break, we watch Vines together. (Are we the only couple that still does this?!) I don’t even have the app on my phone anymore because it took up too much space, but Cam is an avid Vine-viewer and finds the funniest ones that make me laugh until I cry and scare Milo. So we do that for a bit each time we’re together and it’s just the highlight of my week to play “guess which house they choose on House Hunters” and just laugh with him.

Also, can I just point out that I don’t have my 10:30pm curfew anymore like I did in high school, but I go home at about 8:30 because I’m an ABSOLUTE GRANDMOTHER. I used to beg to stay at Cameron’s till 11:00pm when I was 15 or 16 and now as soon as it gets dark I’m like, “I better go soon!” Haha!

9:00 pm Make a cup of tea and get ready for bed

My dog Chip sees me come through the back door and then runs and gets his stuffed animal to come sleep in my room; it’s the cutest thing! I love to make some peppermint or citrus tea before bed, so that I have something soothing to sip on while I remove my makeup, cleanse, and moisturize. I turn on some Netflix for Chip and I while I brush my teeth and change and all that stuff. I make my eyes tired by watching an episode or two and then I fall asleep around 10!

Thanks for reading through what I do all day! I hope it was at least a little interesting for you to see what I’m doing outside of my random tweets and snaps throughout the day. For more daily life, add me on snap! My username is cristina.snaps
