Create Content Everyone Will Love: #askCWH episode 5

ask CWH
The top 2 questions I’ve gotten since starting my blog as well as since starting these #askCWH videos are,

  1. How do you create content?
  2. I’m a new blogger, what should I blog about?

First off, these are great questions. The fact that you are asking them is the first step because..

It’s important to know what people want to read.

Your blog is yours – it’s your outlet, your method of self expression, and probably you’re baby at the time being. However, if you’re wanting it to grow and help people, it’s important to really spend time figuring out what you should write about to create better engagement!

I’ve got some tips for you today in video form as per usual. Grab your coffee and have a listen:

Here’s the breakdown:

So, first things first you need to check for needs.

What I mean by this is to see what people are interested in. I like to do this by grabbing some coffee and scrolling through Pinterest to see what people are pinning. If I see people are pinning summer dessert recipes, for example, (and that happens to match my brand) I might make a recipe to fit in with that interest.

I also check for what people are talking about on Twitter, Facebook, and all those fun social media platforms. A lot of times I just blog about something that I want to blog about, but I think when I’m lacking in content, it’s best to see what would be well accepted by readers!

Second, if it’s been done before, decide why yours is different.

You may want to do a post on how to have a better Monday, but that’s actually been done before. So, decide why yours is different! Maybe you’re presenting some new sleep study that just was performed or maybe you’re introducing an app that goes with your post. Before you even begin typing, declare what is unique about your post.

And lastly, time it perfectly

Obviously, you’re not going to put out a Christmas gift guide in July. In the same way, you want to make sure that you’re post about Fall trends comes at an optimal time. That post is going to do better in early September than late November. You don’t want to be too late or too early, so the best way to check is to see what the magazines are putting out! When you’re checking out at Target, scan the pull quotes and the covers to see what they’re talking about. Already showing summer accessories in April? There’s a blog post for you!
