Summer Skin Savers

One of my most frequently asked questions is what makeup and skin care products I recommend for hot weather and for ladies who’s skin tends to freak if it’s pores get clogged. Because, hello – been there, tried that.

Summer (1) Up until about last year or so, my skin was totally problematic. I felt like I got zits just by breathing! The summertime only made things worse – sure school was out and the neighborhood pool was open, but lathering sunscreen on my face meant I’d wake up the next day with angry, red pimples that would result in a 20 min conceal sesh before I could leave the house. Not fun.

Now that my skin has gotten under control (thank you to this skin care regime!) my main concern is keeping it healthy. I wear a hat outside, try to find a shady spot at the pool, and always, always wear sunscreen. However, I know a lot of you out there want to not only protect your skin this summer, but also obtain a fabulous summer glow without clogging those pores.

Today, I’ll be sharing my favorite skin care products and make-up products that will not irritate your skin so that you can protect and pamper this summer!

Cetaphil face wash

If you’ve read any of my “How I cleared my skin” posts, then you know this guy is my BFF. It’s super gentle and does a great job and getting rid of any dirt and make-up on my face. I also use their daily mosturizer with SPF 15 every day, rain or shine, leaving the house or not. Super great options for a girl who’s ballin’ on a budget, but wants to take care of her skin.

Mary Kay Facial Highlighting Pen

Ok, I love this little guy. (Why do I keep referring to my products as if they’re people? Sorry.) Don’t be scared about a liquid highlight; on the contrary, I love it because it blends nicer and feels more lightweight than a powder. Perfect for hot, Texas summers! I do not need to feel like my face is a cake when it’s approaching 100 degrees. I like the fact that this product is a pen because it’s easy to transport and travel with and easy to apply to those defined areas of your face such as your cupid’s bow and cheekbones.

Oh and just a side note: If you don’t already have a Mary Kay sales rep and you’re looking to purchase something from them, you can go through my mom’s site http://www.marykay.com/sumanduj to make a purchase! (She does free shipping to college students.)

Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder

Rule number 1 with powder: don’t over-do it. I dab this under my eyes (over my concealer), on my jawline, and down my t-zone and that’s it. It’s crazy lightweight and makes your skin feel silky smooth. I’ve actually used the Tarte Amazonian Clay powder foundation (which retails for $36) and I’m perfectly happy with this one instead (and it’s only $5!)

Tava Sunscreen Face Stick + Balm

When it comes to sun protection, I do not want slimy, oily, sticky sunscreen. I’m going to put it on no matter what because I don’t want wrinkles or melanoma, but the worst thing is when the product I’m using is full of harsh chemicals that turn my face into a grease ball and cause me to break out. I’m collaborating with Tava sunscreen for this post and they sent me their tinted (!!!) face stick and chapstick.

The second I got it in the mail I applied it, let it sit for a few minutes, and then put my makeup over it for a day of shopping. I was pleasantly surprised that I needed less coverage after applying the face stick because it evened my skin and gave me a nice glow while at the same time delivering some much-needed protection from the sun with it’s natural zinc! The formula isn’t oily or slimy because it’s free of harsh chemicals.

No breakouts, glowy skin, and sun protection. Yes, yes, and yes, ya’ll!

What products will you pick up for a summertime glow that protects?

X,

Cristina
