Summer 5-Minute Makeup Routine

5 minute

In the summer, I love to keep a simple makeup routine. (Scratch that: I like to keep it simple all the time.) Whether I have class or work, I tend to go barefaced aside from some lengthening mascara, and then I’ll add on some product at the end of the day before going out to dinner or on date night.

At this stage in my life, I don’t have clear acrylic cases stacked high on my vanity full of glosses, liners, and foundations. When I find something I like I stick to it, and I really only try new things if they’re free samples or $3 at Target.

I’ve been getting some questions via my Snapchat (Cristina.snaps) on what products I use to do a quick 5-minute face when I’m going out (read: going to eat tacos and still be in bed by 9:30) and while I’ve done a couple product features on my snap, I thought it be fun to do a full tutorial on the blog!

Note: The first product in each widget is the one I’m currently using! The rest I’d consider old favorites or special occasion go-to’s.

Step 1: Concealer

Lately I’ve been using the Maybelleine Cover Stick concealer because it’s a dryer formula than my usual Almay one. If I’m out in the humidity, my face can get a bit oily, so I don’t want my products to melt off and look runny. When I have splurged on concealer in the past, I’ve loved the Smashbox one.

Step 2: Foundation

Here’s where I survey my skin and my plans for the day. If my skin is looking really good by some happy miracle, I’ll just apply some Maybelleine BB cream over my concealer with a beauty blender. If I feel like I’m wanting a bit more coverage, I’ll use my Rimmel London Stay Matte powder. I usually end up using this anyway over my BB cream just to set it, so this is always a go-to. I’ve mentioned before that I love it better than the $40 Sephora option.

Step 3: Blush

I’m a creature of habit when it comes to blush because it can be so tricky to get the right shade for your skin tone! I found that Revlon “Mauvelous” worked wonders for me back when I did competition dance like 4 years ago, so I stick to that. However, my mom hooks me up with the Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Colors and they are darling. “Cherry Blossom” gives you a sweet, natural flush!

Step 4: Mascara

Ok, first off I have a new obsession. I recently contacted Plume Lash Science to try out their lash serum because I’ve been dying to grow my lashes. I’d love to do extensions, but I don’t think I’m ready for the maintenance yet. I’ve been using Plume (formally NuvaLash) for about 3 weeks now, and I’m already noticing that they’re longer and thicker. I only need one coat of mascara for a full lash look that used to take me 20 minutes! I use Mary Kay Lash Intensity or Maybelleine Dream Lash to complete the look. (I’ve included a couple more mascara favs because I’m addicted!)

Step 5: Liner

I hadn’t used eyeliner for a while until I got a free sample of this Marc Jacobs! Use any black liner to line your upper water line and it gives the appearance of fuller, darker lashes. For a more dramatic “Christina Aguilera in Burlesque” look, Rachel gave me her Urban Decay creme liner.

Step 6: Lipstick

I’ve been a fan of lipstick since I went through my Nicholas Spark stage in 7th grade and read The Notebook over and over and would try to recreate the red pout that Allie sported. Now I go for more neutral shades like the Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Maple or Kat Von D’s Lolita. I also have a free sample of Marc Jacob’s creme lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang that’s a great pop of fuschia tones!

Voila! There’s my 5 minute face if I don’t get distracted by Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt! (Finally gave in to the hype and started watching…too funny.)
