Healthy College Grocery List

Happy Monday!

healthy college grocery list

Since I started college about 2 years ago (holy moly, time flies) I have developed a steady grocery list that I shop from about once every 2 weeks. (Note: I don’t get ice cream every 2 weeks, haha. I just wanted to put it on there so you guys knew a good dairy-free option!) I keep my grocery store trips around $25 each time, and that works for me because I really only eat at home on weekdays, because I travel on weekends!

I’m going to share that list with you today, so you can follow it if you’d like, but please feel free to make modifications. (Example: If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you can take off the meat and replace with your favorite source of plant-based protein!)

Also, GREAT NEWS – this list works for ALL grocery stores! I typically get the bulk of my things from Walmart because it’s the most cost-friendly, but I love a good Whole Foods trip just because I love the atmosphere and the quality of their produce. But if you want to hit up Sprouts, HEB, Kroger, Safeway, Publix, whatever your local grocer…go ahead!

Now, here are some really easy meals and snacks I like to prepare with the items on this list!

Breakfast:

  • Quick oats with banana pieces (topped with cinnamon and brown sugar)
  • A smoothie with frozen berries, banana, and almond milk (I’ll toss in spinach if I have it!)
  • Banana/egg pancakes….recipe here!

Lunch:

  • Buddha bowl with brown rice, beans, bell peppers, avocado, and siracha
  • Baked sweet potato with veggies or side salad
  • Roasted potato chunks (recipe here) with veggies or side salad
  • Veggie wrap on whole wheat tortilla with veggies and hummus

Snacks:

  • smoothie with frozen berries, banana, and almond milk
  • mini sweet peppers and hummus
  • blue corn tortilla chips and hummus
  • apple slices or strawberries

Dinner:

  • Whole wheat pasta with bell peppers and zucchini
  • “Huevos rancheros” 2 eggs over-easy, black beans, and some veggies
  • Sweet potato and bean quesadillas: recipe here…I just don’t add cheese and I used mashed sweet potatoes!
  • Veggie tacos: recipe here!

  • Love this post! Strangely enough, college is actually when I ate the healthiest. Grad school now? Not quite as much…ha! That Buddha bowl for lunch sounds delish.

  • Love avacados! Those are always on my grocery list!

While I am not in college anymore (Thank God!) I need to evaluate my budget and go back to a few more basic meals while also sticking to managing mine and my family’s health. Thanks for this list and simple meal plan, we might try this out this week!

  • $25?!!? Now that is impressive!

  • This is perfect for college students ! I had something really similar in college ,but since I was at college most weekends it was a little more expensive! I love Whole Foods, I feel so much healthier whenever I walk in there lol!

I always procrastinate making a grocery list so this will come in handy for me. I wish I could have had this when I was in college.

  • I don’t know if you live near a Trader Joe’s, but they have THE BEST coconut coffee creamer! They also have great pre-portioned trail mix that’s easy to toss in your backpack for a healthy snack on campus. My favorite is the breakfast trek mix.

Oh yes there is one pretty close – I’ve been meaning to go get some things from there! Thanks for the recommendations 🙂

  • Jeez girl can you make me some of these meals during the week? I never feel like cooking after class ugh.

      Haha sure be right over!!

  • I LOVE this!! It’s so hard to worry about eating healthy when you have a million other things going on in college – I wish I had this before I graduated haha! Love it!

  • I struggle so bad with making healthy grocery lists so this is perfect! I can’t wait to put it to good use.

  • Wow! What a great list and I’m so impressed you keep all this to around $25. I need to take lessons! 🙂

  • This is a great list! I remember the hardest thing for me at college was getting and keeping fresh produce! I graduated in May and love being home where there is lots of fresh fruits and veggies!

    • Omg. That was supposed to say college. I swear autocorrect is so random! Haha.

  • I just found this list and am going to force my boyfriend to use it instead of buying pop tarts and hot pockets. I love it.
