3 Healthy and Healing Smoothies

I’ve been on a smoothie kick lately, but really I feel like that’s been the past two years of my life.

For the past three months when I was staying in my sunshine studio AirBnB, I didn’t have my Vitamix with my since I wouldn’t have a freezer there to keep smoothie ingredients. I thought it would only be a month that I stayed there, so I thought, “Oh well!”…… But then I stayed 3 months….and I really, really missed smoothies.

And you’d know if you’re following along with my new food Instagram account: Cristinawashere_food! It’s been so fun to share recipes and grocery hauls there.

Let’s talk about 3 healthy and healing smoothies. I love using food as fuel and food as medicine; that’s really contributed to my healthy relationship with food. I get excited to eat because I’m like, “Ooh what does my body need today and what can I whip up to give it to it?!”

Here are 3 perfect smoothies for your breakfast that will give you all the power to push through your day and feel great!

Matcha Berry Smoothie

This one is by far the simplest out of the three. I use this matcha powder by the way!

Benefits: matcha is high in antioxidants, it boosts memory and concentration (hello, finals week!), increases energy levels and metabolism, and helps the immune system.

-1/2 cup frozen berries

-1 tsp matcha powder

-drizzle of honey (*or agave for vegan version)

-couple dashes of cinnamon

-1 cup unsweetened almond milk

-1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)

(optional) chia seeds, fresh berries for extra antioxidants and fiber such as blueberries, raspberries, and/or strawberries

Low-Sugar Zucchini Berry Smoothie

My NEW obsession. I’ve been putting frozen zucchini instead of banana in my smoothies for a lower sugar, creamy glass of perfection. I love bananas, but if you eat them too often (and too many a day) you can upset your stomach and develop an intolerance. I’m thinking I’m gonna save my nanners for muffins and pancake recipes, and just do more zucchini in smoothies!

Benefits: The zucchini packs a lot of great vitamins and is low in sugar as I mentioned. The rest of the ingredients are perfect to keep you full! This is my go-to before a busy day and/or a workout where I need a smoothie that will really fuel my morning.

-1/2 cup frozen zucchini

-1/2 cup frozen mixed berries

-2 pitted dates (I know they seem gross, but they sweeten your smoothie without added or artificial ingredients!)

-1 tablespoon chia seeds (you can’t taste these by the way)

-(optional) 1 scoop Hum Nutrition Green Super Food powder in Tahitian Vanilla

-1 spoonful almond butter

-1 cup unsweetened almond milk

chia seeds, melted almond butter (melt in microwave then drizzle with spoon), and strawberries

Chocolate Glow Smoothie

This one is my favorite for weekend mornings when I’m seeing brunch pictures of Nutella waffles and french toast. It’s amazing – and great for you!

Benefits: The cacao has 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries, it’s the highest source of plant-based iron, and packed with magnesium. The dates promote glowing skin, and the chocolate flavor from the cacao will just make your morning sweet!

-EITHER 1/2 frozen banana or 1/2 cup frozen zucchini (I’ve made the smoothie with each before, and they’re both delish!)

-2 pitted dates

-1 tablespoon chia seeds

-1 heaping spoonful of almond butter

-drizzle of honey (*or agave)

-couple dashes cinnamon

-1 cup unsweetened almond milk

-chia seeds, melted almond butter, organic unsweetened coconut shavings (I buy these at Whole Foods in the plastic tins with all the trail mixes and snack mixes!)

Enjoy your mornings with these smoothies! And let me know how you like them 🙂
